ASG supplies Kawasaki Robotics with new machine guarding solution for showroom – Machine Guarding

Background

Kawasaki Robotics (UK) Ltd is the UK robotics division of Kawasaki Heavy Industries Japan, and a leading supplier of industrial robots and robotic automation systems with a broad product portfolio, able to service a wide range of applications all around the world.

Problem

At the end of 2011, the UK division moved into its premises in Warrington, relocating from an old site that they had been situated at since 1999. The previous premises were 15,000 sq ft and split over two different sites.

The new facility centralises all the sales and customer support operations, with areas for customer demonstrations, training, robot test and integration and a large area for stock machines. There is also a main showroom which displays key machines and robotics, included a spot welding machine, palletising robot, and a pick and place multipurpose heavy payload machine. All equipment is surrounded by machine guarding to ensure protection for personnel and visitors.

Owing to the age of the machine guarding – 30 years old – the company decided to find a replacement of a new and more suitable product. Kawasaki Robotics decided to go out to the market for a new machine guarding solution to meet their needs and provide protection within the 2,500 sq ft showroom area.

Kawasaki decided on the purchase of a SATECH Machine Guarding solution, with a combination of Basic, Strong and Adapta protection that offered high quality products and a short installation period.

Solution

Following Kawasaki Robotics’ market research, the robotics company approached safety solutions provider ASG Services for advice on the best solution for its needs. Dave Pearson, senior manager and Ian Hensman, sales manager at Kawasaki Robotics liaised with ASG Services’ Gareth Hall, throughout the sales purchase.

ASG Services is a distributor for high quality SATECH perimeter machine guarding, designed in accordance with the EU Directive on the Safety of Machines (2006/42/CE,). This range of guarding will suit any application where personnel need protection from working machinery.

Kawasaki decided on the purchase of a SATECH Machine Guarding solution, with a combination of Basic, Strong and Adapta protection that offered high quality products and a short installation period. It also allowed fast and easy assembly, and gave Kawasaki the best all-round solution for its showroom.

Outcome

The benefits of installing SATECH machine guarding from ASG at the showroom are numerous: the new product has now provided an aesthetically pleasing solution, while helping to portray a professional image for Kawasaki Robotics.
